Meet the RadioAlabama Foundation

Building on an award-winning heritage in commercial broadcasting along with a solid commitment to entertainment, information, and public service, the nonprofit RadioAlabama Foundation owns and operates two noncommercial radio stations: WJHO-FM (branded as 89.7 WJHO, with a unique contemporary Christian format) and WFAZ-FM (branded as Classic Country 90.9, with a compelling classic country format).

Transmitting from a tall tower just outside the southeastern boundaries of the Talladega National Forest, the stations reach into parts of more than 10 counties in east-central Alabama as two of only 47 full-power, noncommercially licensed radio stations in the state. An extension of the RadioAlabama brand family, the RadioAlabama Foundation’s sole sources of funding are underwriting and contributions from companies, industries, organizations, and listeners.

We reach beyond Alabama

Collectively, the RadioAlabama family’s on-air network reaches into parts of 17 counties — northwest to southeast from the Birmingham suburbs to and through Auburn-Opelika, north from I-20 to the south to Montgomery.

In addition to streaming platforms for PCs, laptops, and iOS and Android devices, our stations can be heard worldwide on the RadioAlabama app and Amazon Alexa-enabled smartspeakers.

Classic Country 90.9 and 89.7 WJHO are owned and operated by the non-profit RadioAlabama Foundation. Funding comes from area businesses and industries through underwriting – and financial contributions from listeners like you. Everything we do for the communities we serve is free, and every penny we raise helps support our ongoing mission. If you enjoy what you hear, encourage your company to work with us as a sponsor, or make a personal contribution.
