Auburn to host Oklahoma in Big 12/SEC Challenge

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Auburn men’s basketball team is set to take part in the ninth annual Big 12/SEC Challenge when it hosts Oklahoma, Jan. 29, 2022.

All 10 of the Big 12’s teams and 10 of the SEC’s 14 member institutions will participate in this year’s event. Each of the 10 SEC teams that participate in the 2022 Challenge will be a part of the 2023 event.

ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU will combine to televise the contests. Start times and network designations will be announced at a later date.

Auburn is 2-1 vs. Oklahoma all-time with all three matchups played at neutral sites. The Tigers won the first meeting 78-70 in St. Petersburg, Fla. in 1978. The Sooners won the next duel 107-87 in the NCAA Tournament in Atlanta, Ga.

In the most recent game in 2016 in Uncasville, Conn., Auburn started four freshmen and defeated Oklahoma 74-70 as part of the Hall of Fame’s Birthday of Basketball.

Oklahoma went 16-11 last season and earned in appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Sooners have made seven of the last eight NCAA Tournaments.

The Tigers are 2-4 in the Big 12/SEC Challenge all-time, but have won two of their last three. Auburn won at TCU in 2017 and vs. Iowa State inside Auburn Arena in 2020.

The SEC won the 2021 Big 12/SEC Challenge by winning five of the nine games played. The SEC holds a 25-24 advantage over the last five years of the event.
