Aggie Soccer downs Munford in Monday night matchup

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Both Sylacauga varsity girls and boys soccer teams won in an game against Munford High School.

The girls had 36 total shots with 23 shots on goal and had 57.6% of possession for the game. Defense didn’t give up a shot on goal all night. The girls defeated the Lions 4-0.

Girls stats:

Hollee Johns: 1 assist

Emma Grace Steers: 1 assist

Audrey Bell: 1 assist

Peyton Fricks:1 goal

Molly Childres: 1 goal

Jasmine Burns: 2 goals

“Considering we were coming off spring break without a practice I was extremely happy with our play,” said varsity girls head coach Nick Grogan. “We were very aggressive in the attack and took a lot of good shots. Their goalie played an excellent game and made several great saves only allowing 4 goals on 36 shots. Defensively we had a solid performance not allowing a shot on goal. We even had a defender find the back of the net last night on a corner. Unfortunately that same player Molly Childress may have suffered a serious injury later in the game. Hopefully we will know more on her injury today as our defense has been vital this season. At this point in the season staying health and injury free is important to our teams success. We will prepare for Thursday night at home against BRHS.”

The varsity boys had 42 total shots with 17 in goal. The Aggies defeated the Lions 9-0.

Boys stats:

Franklin Perez: 3 goals and 2 assists

Aubrey Elliott: 3 goals

Camden Faircloth: 2 goals and 1 assist

Tate Holmes: 1 goal

Nathan Perry (Keeper): 2 saves

Dexter Tai (Keeper): 1 save

“This was a good win against a county opponent in our first match back from Spring Break,” said boys head coach Billy Faircloth. “Our offense got going faster than I expected (after a week off), scoring 3 goals in the first 8 minutes. Our defense played pretty solid throughout the entire match. All of the guys were able to play a lot of minutes, which we needed considering we turn right around and play a region match vs Shelby County tonight (Tuesday). I’m proud of my guys and their effort. The win vs Munford moves us to 8-5 overall, and we’ll attempt to get to 9-5 overall & 3-1 in the region tonight at home vs Shelby County at 5:30.”
