RadioAlabama Sports platform set to launch in August

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – RadioAlabama’s award-winning local sports coverage is expanding with introduction of a new RadioAlabama Sports brand.

Officially launching on Aug. 1, RadioAlabama Sports (RadioAlabamaSports.net) will be sources of state high school sports information and scores, collegiate athletic news and analysis, and professional sports news in the southeast. News from statewide sources, media partners, and original reporting, opinion, and analysis will fuel the platform.

In addition to the online resource, a twice-daily RadioAlabama Sports Update will be heard on RadioAlabama-affiliated stations.

“This has been part of our plan for a few years now and is finally becoming a reality,” said Jeremy Law, News and Sports Director. “We recognize the passion for high school sports in Alabama and are excited about making more content available on air and online.”

“Our focus is on local high school sports,” said Multimedia Platform Coordinator and On-air Talent Noah Gardner. “That’s our bread and butter – and what we have done well. This expansion will give even more people access to sports information in one place.”

Law, an Alabama graduate, and Gardner, an Auburn graduate, will also be introducing their own team-specific shows and podcasts.

RadioAlabama has gained statewide recognition and awareness from media partners, coaches, and athletes. In 2017, RadioAlabama’s Yea!106.5 and 98.3 HD2(Alabama’s 2017 Radio Station of the Year) partnered with Sylacauga City Schools and the Sylacauga High School Journalism Department for multimedia coverage of football, basketball, and baseball games through a new Aggie Sports Network. In 2018, the format was mirrored for Childersburg High School, with year-long coverage on KiX 100.3 through the Tiger Sports Network.

“Our journalism students are fortunate to have such great resources in the professionals with RadioAlabama and the opportunity to work the many live sports broadcasts throughout the school year,” said Dr. Jon Segars, Superintended of Sylacauga City Schools. “Our partnership has been one of great learning and our students are being recognized at state and national competitions for their talents. We appreciate RadioAlabama for bringing real work-based learning to our schools.”

Building on coverage of these two schools, RadioAlabama is launching exclusive streams for other schools during football season including B.B. Comer, Fayetteville, and Lincoln High Schools – each with its own dedicated broadcast crew.

“This is a big deal…a really big deal,” said Michael Brannon, Executive Vice President of RadioAlabama. “Our commitment to covering the best local sports, and more, throughout the state and beyond is paramount. Disseminating this type of news and information to the state is incredibly exciting.”

RadioAlabama has garnered recognition for sports coverage from the Alabama Broadcasters Association, including Best Sports Talk Show for The East Central Alabama High School Football Coaches Show and an award of merit for David McCurley as Small Market Radio Sportscaster.

Broadcast information and coverage plans for 2019-2020 are on RadioAlabamaSports.net, where team profiles and live game streams will be available. Interested listeners and viewers can stay up to date by following RadioAlabama Sports on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
