A former Tiger has found a new home.
Jamal Johnson announced on March 18th that he would be leaving Auburn’s basketball program in search of a new school. He revealed his transfer destination Wednesday morning.

Johnson began his career at the University of Memphis, where he averaged 6.9 points per game, as well as 3.3 rebounds per game. He transferred to Auburn University in 2018 and sat out for a year before his debut with the Tigers. Over the course of his two seasons as a backup guard at Auburn, Johnson averaged 6.5 points per game, shooting 38.1% from behind the arc. His junior season he scored 9.4 points per contest. He started his last 4 games with the Tigers, averaging 12 points and 5 assists over that timespan. The veteran guard will have one year of eligibility left at UAB.
UAB head coach Andy Kennedy has delved into the transfer market this offseason, and has had major success. The Blazers have now picked up two former SEC players in Jamal Johnson and Ole Miss’ KJ Buffen with starting experience (Buffen more than Johnson).
With the absence of Jamal, Auburn lost its third player to the transfer portal this offseason, but the Tigers are also using the portal to their advantage. Auburn picked up College of Charleston star guard Zep Jasper last week, and they are pursuing another veteran stud in Missouri’s Xavier Pinson.
