Tigers continue homestand with series vs. Wright State

AUBURN, Ala. – No. 20 Auburn (7-3) caps off a stretch of five games in six days with a three-game series vs. Wright State (2-5) this weekend at Plainsman Park. First pitch in the series opener is scheduled for Friday at 4 p.m. CT. Game two will begin Saturday at 2 p.m. with the series finale slated for Sunday at 1 p.m.

Auburn enters the weekend with a 7-3 record and has outscored its opponents 89-36.

The Tigers rank in the top 20 in the NCAA in hits (112, 2nd), doubles (29, 2nd), runs (89, 9th), average (.322, 11th), scoring (8.9, 14th) and slugging percentage (.483, 18th).

Auburn has collected double digit hits in six games and has scored double digit runs in five games.

Judd Ward went 4-for-4 with two doubles, one home run and seven RBI Wednesday night. His seven RBI are tied for the most in the SEC this season.

The pitching staff has struck out 10 or more batters in a program record 10 straight games to start the season and ranks third in the country with 117 strikeouts on the season.

Head coach Butch Thompson notched his 100th career win at Plainsman Park in the team’s 12-6 victory against Alabama A&M Wednesday night.

SCOUTING THE RAIDERS

Wright State enters the weekend with a 2-5 record having played four of its seven games against top 10 teams in Mississippi State and Louisville. The Raiders handed Louisville a 10-3 loss on its home field on Feb. 19.

Offensively, the Raiders are hitting .248 as a team and are led by Damon Dues .400 batting average. Gehrig Anglin leads the team in slugging (.536) and RBI (six).

On the mound, Wright State has turned in a 5.43 staff ERA. Its weekend rotation in Kreuzer, Brehmer and Cline has combined to throw 30.1 of 58.0 innings this season.

This weekend marks the first meeting between Auburn and Wright State.

Fans attending Friday’s game are advised to park in the Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum lot, the Stadium Parking Deck off Heisman Drive, or the Athletics Complex Parking Deck. Fans should note that the Auburn Arena lot will be closed at 5 p.m. CT to prepare for the gymnastics meet that night.

New for 2020, alcohol may be purchased in the Tiger Terrace. Any fan with a purchased game ticket may enter without a pass or additional ticket and purchase either beer or wine with proof of ID. Alcohol sales end after the top of the seventh. No alcohol may leave the Tiger Terrace, and outside food or drink is no longer permissible.

Grass areas around the park and adjacent parking lots are open for tailgating.
