The Gus Bus is making its rounds again. Whether you are on the bus or not, history is on Auburn’s side after the Tigers’ 4-0 start to 2019.
Since 1957, Auburn has started its season 4-0 on 18 occasions, and 10 of those 18 times, Auburn reached 10 wins. Only three times did Auburn fail to win nine games, and Auburn has averaged 9.8 wins per year when they have started 4-0 since 1957.
Sure, every season is different. Even though Auburn has started out 4-0, there is no guarantee the Tigers will win nine or 10 games, especially with this schedule. Nonetheless, Auburn doesn’t have just the most impressive resume in the SEC, but it has the most impressive resume in the entire country. The Tigers’ trajectory is upward as they march head first into the thick of SEC play.
The most impressive quality about what Auburn has done is the Tigers have won away from home, something that has plagued Auburn in recent years. Auburn is 19-17 away from Jordan-Hare Stadium in Gus Malzahn’s tenure, excluding this season where the Tigers are 2-0.
To have accomplished the feat of beating two ranked teams away from home with a freshman quarterback is no small undertaking. In fact, while the offensive and defensive lines are experienced, much of this Auburn team is young, meaning Auburn’s potential is still yet to be realized.
Before the year, it did not seem likely for Auburn to come out the gates like it has, but now, it is a legitimate possibility the Tigers are 7-0 when whey roll into Baton Rouge. With the entire month of November in front of a legion of 87,500 faithful fans wearing orange and blue, history speaks for itself. When Auburn is in contention in November, strange things happen in Jordan-Hare Stadium, just think about it for a second.
